The District of Squamish is seeking a professional engineering consulting firm to assist with the update of the District’s Sanitary Sewer Master Plan, which was completed in March 2018. In 2023, the Province of British Columbia introduced housing legislation to allow increased density in areas currently zoned for single-family or duplex use through Bill 44. The legislation is expected to increase the ultimate buildout population of the District. However, the rate of uptake and final build out are uncertain at this time. In addition, the District adopted a new Official Community Plan in 2018 that is intended to guide community development until 2041. Community development plans continue to evolve through Sub-Area Planning work and ongoing land development applications. The District is currently working on population growth forecasts, which are anticipated to be available in Summer 2025. The increased population resulting from Bill 44, OCP land use and ongoing development is anticipated to have a significant impact on the sewer system.
