Description: |
The District is seeking an experienced architectural firm/s or licensee/s registered in British Columbia (i.e. Architect AIBC) and supporting design team to lead all aspects and phases of design for the following project: Public Works Buildings located on 39909 Government Rd, Squamish BC V0N 3G0 Public Works Project Public Works contributes significantly to community safety, both through its day to day operations but also in the case of emergencies (water line break, flooding, hazard spills etc.). The current site consists of a vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair building, an administrative trailer, a lunch-room trailer, a large yard for equipment storage, sand and salt shelter and a number of seacans and sheds. The needs assessment for Public Works buildings is listed under the Districts Real Estate Facilities & Master Plan (which engaged the services of a registered Architect and Quantity Surveyor). The two main buildings, maintenance (8,300 ft2) and office (3,000 ft2) are over 21 years old. They require refurbishment/replacement to meet the current and future demands of the Public Works in the growing District. The site is flat and readily accessible and boarders the Waste Water Treatment Plant – future expansion of the plant needs to be taken into consideration in design of the Public Works site. As shown in the Architect’s review below in Table 5, the Public Works facility faces challenges in all assessment categories. Most importantly, the current facility experiences life safety challenges – (1) seismic stability is substandard and would impact on Public Works ability to respond in the event of earthquake and (2) the configuration of the facility mixes staff with large, moving vehicles. Both buildings are significantly undersized, staff are occasionally using sea cans as office space, and part of the work on vehicles and equipment takes place outdoors and there are insufficient facilities for clothes drying. Expensive equipment is also stored outdoors. |
