| Description: |
The District of Squamish (the District) requires professional archaeological consulting services for the Pemberton-Laurelwood Bridge Project. This project will construct a multi-modal bridge across the Mamquam Blind Channel providing a second entrance to Downtown Squamish from Highway 99. The project is anticipated to involve ground disturbance within the traditional territory of the Skwxwú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation) and preliminary review has determined that Archaeological Impact Assessments (AIAs) under the Heritage Conservation Act are required. The District requires archaeological services to meet provincial regulatory requirements and support responsible project delivery. A District-wide Geographic Information System (GIS) based Archaeological Overview Assessment (AOA) is currently underway and is nearing completion. The successful proponent will be provided with project-relevant information from the AOA to inform the Services. The AOA is not available to be shared to all proponents prior to award. Beyond the District-wide AOA, no previous archaeological studies have been completed for this site. Reporting to the District Engineering staff, the project will be informed by First Nations policies and protocols for heritage management, will be consistent with provincial legislation and guidelines as per the BC Archaeology Branch and the Heritage Conservation Act. |
